Amazon: "Extraterrestrial: The First Sign of Intelligent Life Beyond Earth," | Avi Loeb
Harvard’s top astronomer lays out his controversial theory that our solar system was recently visited by advanced alien technology from a distant star.
In late 2017, scientists at a Hawaiian observatory glimpsed an object soaring through our inner solar system, moving so quickly that it could only have come from another star. Avi Loeb, Harvard’s top astronomer, showed it was not an asteroid; it was moving too fast along a strange orbit, and left no trail of gas or debris in its wake. There was only one conceivable explanation: the object was a piece of advanced technology created by a distant alien civilization.
In Extraterrestrial, Loeb takes listeners inside the thrilling story of the first interstellar visitor to be spotted in our solar system. He outlines his controversial theory and its profound implications: for science, for religion, and for the future of our species and our planet. A mind-bending journey through the furthest reaches of science, space-time, and the human imagination, Extraterrestrial challenges listeners to aim for the stars - and to think critically about what’s out there, no matter how strange it seems.
Salon: "Why physicist Avi Loeb thinks there's a "serious possibility" that 'Oumuamua was an alien spacecraft It's a "serious possibility that we should contemplate," Loeb says in his new book on the bizarre space object," By - Nicole Karlis | January 15, 2021
Back in October 2017, a postdoctoral researcher named Robert Weryk at the University of Hawaii was sifting through the usual data stream from the Pan-STARRS astronomical survey of the sky when he noticed an unexpected object. It appeared to be highly elongated, like a stick, with a long axis 10 times longer than its short axis — unprecedented for an asteroid. Some hypothesized that 'Oumuamua swung towards our solar system as a result of a gravitational slingshot of a binary star system; others, that it might be an odd comet, though no tail was evident. Thus the search began to collect and analyze as much data as possible before it left our solar system. Immediately upon discovering its physical properties, researchers realized its shape — which would minimize abrasions from interstellar gas and dust — would be ideal for an interstellar spacecraft.
The idea understandably sent shockwaves through the scientific community and stoked controversy. Ultimately, scientists coalesced behind the idea that it was of natural origin, rather than artificial. But Loeb, who is the former chair of astronomy at Harvard University, remains certain that it was something akin to a light sail — a form of interstellar propulsion — spacecraft created by an extraterrestrial civilization. So much so that he wrote a whole book about it. That book would be "Extraterrestrial: The First Sign of Intelligent Life Beyond Earth," in which Loeb argues that the scientific community's resistance to discussing the possibility of extraterrestrial life has hindered taking seriously his hypothesis that 'Oumuamua was an alien light sail.
Loeb reflects on how what happened with 'Oumuamua was a bit of a missed opportunity, and that academia must invest more in the search for life in our universe to better prepare us for another interstellar visitor. But perhaps, most importantly, in a time when Earth faces an urgent global warming crisis, Loeb says that it could be finding extraterrestrial life that saves us from ourselves.
FOX News: "UFO documents released by CIA are 'real-life X-Files,' expert says British investigator said there are some 'fascinating' documents in the files," By Chris Ciaccia | January 18th, 2021
The CIA's decision to declassify more than three decades worth of UFO documents is a "real-life X-Files," according to one expert.
Nick Pope, a former employee and UFO investigator for Britain's Ministry of Defense, said there are some "fascinating" documents in the files, which are more than 2,700 pages. However, the odd manner in which they were released and difficulties searching them will "fuel conspiracy theories."
"There's an irony in the UFO community expecting to find a smoking gun in material released by an organization they believe is part of a cover-up, and recent revelations about the Pentagon's AATIP program and the [Unidentified Aerial Phenomena] Task Force suggest anyone looking in CIA files for the answer to the UFO mystery is looking at the wrong agency," Pope said in an email to Fox News. "Perhaps these are the documents the government wants people to see, a bit like a magician who does something flamboyant with one hand, to draw people's attention, while the important thing is going on in his other hand, behind his back."
WeAreChange: "CIA UNEXPECTEDLY MAKES “BLACK VAULT” UFO FILES AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD," John Titor | January 12th, 2021 |
The CIA has released a large cache of files involving unidentified flying objects (UFOs), also known as unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) following a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request by podcaster John Greenwald Jr. Greenwald operates a website called the “Black Vault,” where he has made the files available in searchable PDF format.
Amazon: "The CIA UFO Papers: 50 Years of Government Secrets and Cover-Ups," by Dan Wright.
Here are the secret CIA papers that prove that the government has been tracking UFOs and extraterrestrials for over 50 years.
In autumn 2016, the CIA sent to its website a cache of electronic files previously released under the Freedom of Information Act but housed at the National Archives. Among a variety of subjects were "unidentified flying objects." Finally, a stockpile of reports and correspondences were available for serious UFO researchers to examine at home.
This book consists of selections from those secret files. Dan Wright spent 18 months selecting, editing, and organizing the 550 files that are relevant to UFO research and has produced a chronological collection of CIA documents spanning 1949 to 2000.
Each chapter focuses on a particular year. The summary of documents for each year is followed by a section called "While You Were Away from Your Desk", which provides historical and cultural context for the document summaries and examines other sightings and contacts that are not mentioned in the CIA files.
Among the fascinating tidbits are:
A memo to J. Edgar Hoover about flying saucer reports and The 1949 conference at Los Alamos that included Edward Teller, upper atmosphere physicist Dr. Joseph Kaplan, and other renowned scientists in which the participants debated whether recent incidents were natural phenomena or UFO sightings.
This is a must-listen for those fascinated by the history of UFO sightings and those interested in government secrets and cover-ups.
The Lancet: "The psychiatrist who wanted to believe," Niall Boyce | September 29, 2012
When abductees recount their paranormal experiences, French told me, in general “the emotion that they show is very, very real…It's the emotion of the situation that [observers] get swept up in and find so compelling”. Writer Paul Cornell, who has woven elements of Mack's story into his thoughtful abduction-themed comic book series Saucer Country, agreed. “Whenever you see these folk…I think most of them are actually sincere—and therefore most of them, it must be said, have experienced something that is upsetting”. Khantzian told me about a meeting with one of Mack's abductees in which a panel of psychiatrists “could find nothing delusional about her”. Mack was keen to stress that his patients could not be diagnosed with disorders such as schizophrenia. As far as Mack was concerned, the treatable mental illness was the trauma of the alleged encounter, not the abnormal experience in itself.
SETI: "A Signal from Proxima Centauri?" By Seth Shostak, Senior Astronomer | December 19th, 2020
... A story in Britain’s Guardian newspaper today (December 18) reports that astronomers with the Breakthrough Listen Project – the comprehensive radio SETI search being run out of the University of California at Berkeley – has detected radio emissions from the direction of Proxima Centauri. That’s the closest star system to us, a mere 4.2 light-years away, and it’s known to be accompanied by at least two planets.
The signal was picked up by the Parkes 210-foot radio telescope in sheep country about 190 miles inland from Sydney, Australia. Because Proxima Centauri is only visible in the southern sky, you need a “down under” telescope to observe it.
But does this mean that SETI researchers have finally stumbled upon their holy grail, a radio emission that could only come from a deliberately constructed transmitter on another world? It’s possible, of course. But the Breakthrough Listen folk are careful not to indulge in any chest beating until the signal is subjected to additional observations.
