Tour Of Bag End
Raymond Chu (Ghos7A55assin) - April 11th, 2005
Raymond Chu (Ghos7A55assin) Shares with us pictures of his visit to New Zealand and Australia of Bags-End... Where the scenes were filmed for Peter Jackson's "Lord O The Rings" Hobbit Village.
This first one is kind of self-explanatory. It's on a hill overlooking all of Hobbiton, and is close to where the technical car park was for the Hobbiton set. Really beautiful scenery in New Zealand, and even if it's a bit chilly, it gets really hot on the Hobbiton set! The sun is quite strong in NZ.
This is a nice picture of the Hill, the community of hobbit holes on a...well, on a hill. Oh yes, and I'm in full gear, too. I have many more pictures of the Hill, and of #3 Bagshot Row, Sam's house, which has the biggest chimney in hobbiton. The funny story is that Sam's hobbit hole originally had an extremely tall chimney, but the construction workers tore that part down on it. So, the owners came and decided to rebuild it, but instead of putting a huge chimney, they put a regular one. The reason was because of the pesky sheep on the farm. The sheep would rub up against it, and a ginormous chimney would probably fall down. Sam's house is the hobbit hole on the left side of the hill.
This picture is on top of Bagend overlooking the party field and party tree. This is the field that Bilbo had his 111th Birthday. All good fun! As you can see, the weather was beautiful that day. Clouds in New Zealand just happen to look more beautiful than clouds anywhere else!
This is the home of Samwise Gamgee. Note that this is the only hobbit hole with an intact chimney. ALso, the doors on all of the hobbit holes have been boarded up. Besides adding to the look of Hobbiton feeling like a ghost town where the hobbits just picked up their bags and left, it was done for a reason. Sheep were living in the hobbit holes, and using them as shelter, but knowing sheep, they caused so much havoc, the hobbit holes started caving in! So the only hobbit hole you can still enter is Bag End.
This the party tree that Bilbo made his famous speech under.
These are from 2 sides of the Hill.
