True Crime One-On-One: Nancy Simpson of The Toll Podcast

Eric Renderking Fisk | December 2019

On each episode I interview True Crime podcasters, investigators and authors to ask them about their motivations. What inspired these people to become determined to do what they do? What are the original cases that gave them their start, the cases they’re working on, and the cases that keep them going? And what is the “Holy Grail” of True Crime topics they want to tackle in the future?

Nancy Simpson shares with us how she began her career in broadcasting, how to conduct a great interview, and tells us about The Toll Podcast and why the story of Shirley Jane Rose who vanished from Springfield, Missouri on the night of October 17th, 1975 matters still to this day... as Nancy and her team wrote on their website in their description and mission statement; The Toll Podcast Explore the collateral damage a crime or unexpected loss has on the families, it touches their community. We also talk about the hard work that goes into doing a True Crime podcast and the importance of doing your own research and giving credit when and where it’s due.

A special note; this interview was done over the phone at a location with poor signal quality. The audio did cut out a few times and while I was able to edit most of the problems out there are still a few glitches. A special thank you again to Nancy for sticking with it and seeing it through to the end.
