Around The World With Craig Whitton

Scotland

After hopping the Night Train, I woke up in beautiful Edinburgh (At least, I hoped I did--I arrived in before the sun came up, and couldn't see anything). After stamping my feet around to beat out the cold, and a quick McMuffin breakfast at Micky D's, the info center finally opened and I found my hostel.

I spent much of my time in Scotland wandering the royal mile, checking out the novel little shops along the way. However, I was absolutely determined to accomplish something I had always wanted to do: climb King Arthur's Seat.

I was in Scotland years before, and attempted to scale the almighty height of 875 feet (heavy sarcasm). However, we didn't quite make it, and I was determined to do it right this time!

And accomplish the climb I did! a 3 year quest had finally come to an end. Even more amazingly, sitting atop the hill (er..Mountain) looking out of Old Town Edinburgh, something happened that I still cannot fully comprehend: My memory all came back. Not all at once, of course, but slowly, like warm water flowing from my head to my toe, I remembered things I hadn't thought of for some time. Weird, huh? I can't explain, nor do I care to! This trip, scarcely a week in, had already permanently changed my life.

Another great thing I did in Scotland was a meeting with fellow Gearhead, Indiana Ken. A genuinely nice chap, with a passion for film (much like myself). Currently he is working on what could be the best fan film ever made, the Treasure of the Templars. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Ken, and hope to see him again sometime.

Then, it was off for a day tour of the Highlands.

Any Monty Python fans out there?

The Firth of Forth...or Forth of Firth? bridge, built in the 1890s, quite the magnificent structure.

Then, it was off to Ireland to see the relations. Off to the Emerald Isle
