Bottom Feeders And Critics

It’s about time I reassert myself as “The Most Controversial Indy Fan” after reading a rude comment about my next (official) article from “Derek Arthur Hastings James.”

Rude Prick

Earlier this week I announced to the world via Twitter and Facebook that I was going to tackle the book “The Lost Civilization Enigma” again via my article called “The Enigma Aftermath.” This time I promissed to write about what the book implied, what if every claim made by Philip Coppans is true then what does it actually mean for us as a society, especially the notion of our “forgotten history?”

And someone became pissed and I'm trying to figure out why.

What if there was once an advanced global civilization before the dawn of our recorded history that broke apart into two factions which eventually annihilated each other in such a cataclysm that scoured the world clean of almost all of the evidence that they ever existed?

Wouldn't you want to read about that, even for pure specualative entertainment? For some - obviously not.

For some, the topic is threatening to our dogmatic paradigm and to address these concepts you have to step far out of your comfort zone. All that remains are some clues of their existence that modern academia chooses to ignore – according to Mr. Coppans – because such conclusions would shatter the current paradigm. He makes this excellent case of why main stream archeologists refuse to look at evidence that might turn their own doctrine upside down… how would you react if someone presented specualation and theories that might prove that everything you thought you knew was wrong?

History is full of stories of people who went against the grain of main-stream thinking only to have their professional lives destroyed by the establishment. Does the name Galileo mean anything to you?

I’ve been in the same boat for the past 10 years thanks to my original mission of The Fedora Chronicles – create a venue for people who share the same interests can interact and contribute their own stories about their own adventures in the real world. Not an Indy Fansite, but a website where someone like Dr. Jones would actually like to visit.

Thanks to the zealots and purists (known to me as the bottom-feeders and lowest 10%’ers) I’m some kind of a heritic. It’s blasphemy to want to chit-chat about anything besides “Indiana Jones” – his costume, and how awesome the first three movies were (and the massive “disappointment” of the fourth.) Introducing content that you might also like.

I committed sacrilege because I thought that since you folks like stories about the pursuit of the Ark Of The Covenant, the Holy Grail, and the Sankara Stones that you might also like this book about lost civilizations that also includes Atlantis – by the way… wasn’t there a video game and comic about “The Fate Of…”

As for "The Lost Civlization Enigma" for a mintue: There are four kinds of people who are going worked up over this book and I can tell you’re in one of these groups...

First – There’s the group of people who will read this book and enjoy it for what it is, mere speculation that there’s something more to history than we think we believe. It’s just summer entertainment and something fun to chit-chat about over a camp fire and beer.

Second – There are those of us who believe in the Supernatural, Paranormal, and Unexplained Phenomenon and every word in this book will be regarded as gospel. This is the primer for those who are looking to get a head start in the topic of Lost Civilizations and might be considered essential reading and a guide for people who like to write fiction akin to searching for The Ark Of The Covenant or The Holy Gail.

Third – Professional and amateur Archeologists who don’t like to be told that everything thing they think they know is either wrong or missing a huge piece of information. These are the people who are overly protective of their institutionalized dogma for a reason; those who maintain and dispense the truth hold the power. I’m sure if there was a book that told me everything I thought I believed was “non factual nonsense” [SIC] I would be defensive, too.

If the mere mention of Mr. Coppan’s book disturbs you and might threaten your profession and/or livelihood then I apologize since no malice was intended.

Fourth – The degenerate bottom-feeders of fandom who get pissy whenever someone likes to bring up something new and different that might dilute their emotional fiefdom. The mere mention of anything intelligent sends them into an irrational tailspin because they’re reminded of the fact that there’s something more to life than four movies, couple of video games and playing dress-up.

It’s hard for me to understand why creating content for everyone to enjoy causes such hatred and loathing from the bottom feeders. I’ve had threat on my life, and threats against my own family because I want to contribute more than the usual cheerleading for the same few films, a handful of comics and smattering of paperbacks.

Expanding the horizon and perhaps even giving the readers some grist for the chat mill would have been welcome in other circumstances. Or would it? What other circumstances could there be? Perhaps every fan base and genre followers have the same phenomenon. Regardless if my experience is common or unique I’ve grown above trying to fix it and now trying to strive beyond it no matter how much it personally hurts sometimes.

As the man who is regarded by at least two websites/forums as “The Most Controversial Indy Fan” and/or “The Most Hated Indy Fan” it gives me great pleasure if Derek Arthur Hastings James is one of these degenerate bottom-feeders and he’s worked up over a mere book. I’m delighted that my contributions to this community serve as a reminder that there are people who are doing more than him with the inspiration they felt with the movies we love.

Not everyone is going to like what you do especially when it goes against the grain of the establishment. People aren’t going to like everything I do, especially when I intentionally contribute material that isn’t the tired cheerleading for the conventional mindset. There have been people who have campaigned to get me banned from other sites and forum and naturally they won since they live otherwise empty lives and have nothing better to do while I’m ambitiously creating new content for people (who also have lives) to enjoy.

For every bottom feeder, there are tens or hundreds of you out there who enjoy what I do on The Fedora Chronicles, you’re the reason why I keep going. While it’s fun to make fun of critics and bottom feeders… I think I have another article to finish.
