A mysterious stranger joins forces with a notorious desperado to protect a beautiful widow from a ruthless assassin working for the railroad.

A great movie which was the height of the spaghetti western genre, at times a bit slow but you can't really argue with it as a masterful piece of cinema and casting Henry Fonda as a villain was surprising but a masterstroke. The overall theme is one of the death of the old West just as the Italian flavoured western took the genre as far it could go.

Trivia - The Golden Age of Hollywood

Henry Fonda originally turned down the picture but was convinced when Leone told him this : "the camera shows a gunman from the waist down pulling his gun and shooting a running child. The camera pans up to the gunman's face and... it's Henry Fonda."
