Mark Blake is hired by Blackie Norton for his Paradise club, eventually she leaves him to work at the Tivoli Opera House and soon becomes a star. Meanwhile Blackie's place is closed down but Mary returns to represent the club in the annual Chicken Ball. Soon San Francisco is hit by a devastating earthquake.

A great example of a big prestige studio picture of the Thirties this film really has everything : romance, comedy, music and great special effects depicting the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Gable plays his usual lovable scoundrel, Tracy is the priest not for the last time and MacDonald the love interest.
