Antonio Salieri remains a mediocre musician who admires the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who he believes creates works which echo the voice of God. Salieri becomes very envious and tries to think of a way to get revenge on God by harming his favoured son.

A stylish movie about ambition and yearning to be the best. The script takes some liberties with the truth and its portrayal of Mozart as a giggling adolescent can be annoying but this is much more Salieri's story and  F Murray Abraham is superb.

Trivia - The Golden Age of Hollywood

Mel Gibson auditioned for the part of Mozart which was played on stage in the 1979 play by cast member Simon Callow.

Prague stood in for Vienna because it lacked at the time many modern TV antennas, the performance of Don Giovanni in the movie was staged at the same venue as where the opera had first appeared.
