A protest strike
aboard the Battleship Potemkin when the crew are given rotten meat ends
in a full scale revolution, the sailors raise the Red Flag and try to
rally support in their home port of Odessa.
Not a movie that touches the heart
though it remains a masterpiece of propaganda and creative editing. The
Odessa Steps sequence in particular is a crucial part of film history
taking montage as far as it could go, arguably Eisenstein took it too
far
in his next film October in which technique sometimes overrides a
watchable narrative.
