Don Vito Corleone the head of a powerful Mafia family transfers his power to his reluctant younger son.

The great gangster epic of modern cinema is superb in making us sympathise with this Mafia family and incredibly convincing in depicting the conversion of Michael from a normal young man to a cold blooded killer all for the family honour. The setpieces : the killing of James Caan, the restaurant killing by Michael and the new Godfather dishing out revenge to his enemies which is intercut with baptism of his son are shocking and brutal but cinematically perfect.

Trivia - The Golden Age of Hollywood

"They have put pudding in Brando's cheeks and dirtied his teeth, he speaks hoarsely and moves stiffly, and these combined mechanics are hailed as great acting...Like star, like film the keynote is inflation." From a review by Stanley Kauffmann
