He wanted a series using music instead of a central character the result was the most innovative animated shorts in film history, these films remain highly entertaining and paved the way for the classic Disney animated features with their pioneering use of colour, the multi-plane camera and hit parade tunes (Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf ?  from The Three Little Pigs gave people hope in the midst of the Depression).
