Sally Bowles, an American singer in 30s Berlin falls in love with Brian, a young Englishman. They are both seduced by a rich playboy. Sally becomes pregnant, Brian offers to marry her but it doesn't work out. Sally returns to the Kit Kat club to sing.

The last of the great film musicals adds a new realism to the genre. You sense that the end of the age of innocence applies not just  to Weimar Germany but the film musical too. Minnelli is of course superb and the scene in which a Hitler Youth member sings "Tomorrow Belongs to Me " is suitably chilling.

Songs include : Mein Herr, The Money Song, Tomorrow Belongs to Me, Cabaret

This film has the distinction of winning most Oscars (8 including one for Minnelli's excellent performance) without winning Best Picture.
