Three From Art Fawcett

Mike "Chewbacca Jones" Garcia Reviews Three Fedora's From Art Fawcett

Well, I was asked to write a few words about the hats of Art Fawcett.  I have three of his unique creations, which I hope will only be the beginning of my Art Fawcett collection.

I started out with a great deal of skepticism.  I mean, how good could a hat really be?  I had a few fur felt Biltmore's, and they seemed top-notch to me.  I still think Biltmore's are nice, but I had no idea what could really be done with a hat, especially a custom one.

My first

Art works with beaver fur felt, which is the best (but some prefer rabbit, and I don’t mind it).  So far, the first hat he made for me has survived rain, snow, and even a tornado!  That hat is now legend (at least on one forum).  The felt is so soft, and the fit that Art finds is beyond compare.  Art not only gets your measurements, but sends you a device that will give him the actual shape of your noggin!  It’s awesome.

Art has only improved with time.  He’s found better sweatbands and now has his own “signature” liners, hatboxes, and a touch of individuality to his ribbon design that’s become a crowd-pleaser.

The other great thing about Art is that he really knows how to put colors together and readily discusses all the details with you.  If you have a very specific vision, he goes with that.  Like my newest Blue Smoke fedora.  I wanted simplicity incarnate, and that’s what I got.

On the other hand, when I ordered my Mojave, I tried to leave room for his creativity.  One day, I’ll probably just say “build me a hat that you think I’ll like” and leave him to it.

There is nothing like a custom hat, and when it comes from a gentleman craftsman like Mr. Fawcett; the experience is elevated to greater heights.  I never thought I could get weak in the knees over a hat, but when I saw my Mojave fedora for the first time, that’s exactly what happened.
