Robert Smith shares with The Fedora Chronicles Readers his own Pride and Joy Plymouth Special Deluxe Four door...

Robert Smith - 1946 Plymouth Special Deluxe Four Door. Allow me to introduce my self. My name is Rob and I am a proud owner of a 1946 Plymouth Special Deluxe Four door. Like the 1950 model, the 1946 to 1950 Special Deluxe models came with heater and radio. My old Plymouth has the original heater that works rather well! The original radio I had restored to working order just last December.

Speaking of the radio, I would like to relate a story that you may enjoy. As I was in Redlands just this past weekend, I wanted to show my friend the now working radio. So, I simply turned the knob and then the soft hum of the vibrator sounded. As the vacuum tubes warmed up, the sound of Count Basie’s famous “One O’ Clock Jump” was coming over the original speaker! Ah, what luck! The one oldies station we have down here was playing a period song at the right time for the radio’s performance! It was so nostalgic to sit there and hear that song come floating out behind the speaker grill of the dash. It was truly its shining moment and an experience I’ll never forget.

I have owned this fun car since May 2004 and it now is my #1 driver! I only have one car and that’s my P-15!

This car is still 6 volt and it works fine. She takes me from point A to B in one piece! She’s a little rough in the paint department, but she still has some shine to the badly kept 1970’s second paint job. It was repainted the original color and when I manage to save up the cash, she’ll be repainted the original color which is dark blue.

I was offered this car by a good friend of mine in Redlands California. I bought it from him and drove it home to Monrovia California. She drove nicely! And I have driven that wonderful car to and from Redlands twice for visits since. That old flat head 6 just drives and drives! That car may only have about 90-95 horse power, but she gets the job done.

With what ever extra cash I have, it goes into the Plymouth. I have christened my old P-15 with the name Jenny. Like the old Curtis Jenny bi-planes of the first world war were know for dependability, my old P-15 has lived up to her name.

Since I have had this Plymouth, I have converted to the MoPar faith! Chrysler, DeSoto, Dodge and Plymouth are tops in my book!

Keep'em Rolling!

Rob Smith.
