A woman steals money from her boss but makes a fateful stop at the Bates Motel.

Hitchcock's ultimate shocker was a milestone in film history in its blending of the horror and thriller genres. It broke all the rules of movies by being a big studio movie made on the cheap and by killing off its star within the first half hour. The tension is built up superbly by Bernard Hermann's driving score. The release provided by the famous shower scene is profoundly shocking.

Trivia - The Golden Age of Hollywood

The shower stabbing scene was allegedly not directed by Hitchcock but by Saul Bass. When asked about what he used for the blood in the bath Hitch said "chocolate sauce".
