Captain Midnight And The Secret Squadron
Production Diary #1 - January 2nd, 2006

By Glenn Bain (Director/Captain Midnight)

After about 3 months of pre-production it’s hard to believe we are actually about halfway done with principle photography. It’s been a long road, and with both major location shoots behind us, I’m glad we are this close to completion.

As it stands we only have some more cockpit work to finish, as well as one final scene that involves myself and Jorge (Chuck) chained to a wall and being tortured. Fun!

So far completed we have the opening sequence which is the jungle trek (stills can be seen on the site) and the escape from Ivan the Sharks clutches (stills again on the site).

The escape scene was especially fun, being that we had live gunfire effects on the set (a plating shop in Opa-Locka Florida.). Being mainly a digital effects guy, I tried to stick with more practical stuff making the film more "real".

Well I guess that just about does it for now. We resume shooting tomorrow (Jan. 3) so I will have some updates to share soon. Also, if any readers have any ideas concerning the design of the DVD, give me a shout!

Happy Flying!

Captain Midnight And The Secret Squadron
Production Diary #2 - January 8th, 2006

By Glenn Bain (Director/Captain Midnight)

It’s finally in the can! Exactly 90 minute’s worth of tape and about a hair over a weeks worth of shooting. Having just completed the final torture sequence and the last of the cock pit work, it’s finally time to move into post-production.

So far I’m extremely happy with the footage I’ve seen so far. The next step is to get the digital animation for the aerial dogfight at the end of the film. Then it’s off to editing (my favorite aspect of the process).

The recently filmed torture scene seemed to go smoother than our other days, mainly because the crew as well as I and the other actors were having a fun time. When else do you get to beat up your director at the end of a shoot? Not many places let me tell you.

I hope to have the film completed and DVDs in the mail in late February, so hang tight fellow squadron members!
Again, If you have any suggestions or ideas to throw my way, feel free to let me know!

Your Captain,
 Glenn Bain

Production Diary 3

Wow! It’s been a while and I felt there should be a new update. The first cut of the film has been completed, and I’m now in the process of designing the DVD menu’s and such. So far, so good.
The next big thing to do to get this film out the door is to get the completed computer animated sequences done. The above picture is from the first scene in the film in which Captain Midnight and Chuck’s bomber gets shot down. The animation was provided by Henning Birkeland (www.henningb.com), a fantastic digital animator out of Norway. From the stuff I’ve seen, Henning has done a fantastic job! I really look forward to completed sequence.
The finale of the short is the aerial dogfight between Chuck/Cap and two of Ivan’s fighters. The animation for that is being done by a great guy named Andrew Giglio (www.andrewgiglio.com), he too is doing nothing less of truly great work.
As the end of this project is drawing near, I want to say thanks to those who have expressed there interest in the film and a big thanks to the man, Eric “Renderking” Fisk for keeping this site, and the project alive.

Looking to the skies,

Captain Midnight And The Secret Squadron
Production Diary #4
March 23, 2006

By Glenn Bain (Director/Captain Midnight)

Haven’t updated in a long while, so I thought I would get some faithful fans back into the loop. The film technically is done, I have it edited, scored, and laid 3 layers of sound effect tracks to the film. The final thing? The dreaded dogfight sequence. I haven’t heard from my animator in a while, but I’m sure he’ll come through.

Other than that, I have received a few e-mails regarding sequel talk. Good news for those who asked because we’ve decided to produce a prequel to our Capt. Midnight film. Its still in a very early stage, so don’t expect it soon. I will keep you updated. This really is getting bigger than I imagined.

I also want to inform visitors on the site that a new teaser trailer will be added to the site very shortly (or when this entry is added). Be sure to let us know what you think of the teaser by e-mailing myself or Jorge or by visiting The Fedora Chronicles forum.

So be on the lookout for news regarding the films release soon!

In the name of justice,

As my first time writing to you all I am glad to say that this is the part that I was waiting anxiously to write about. I have been able to see 90% of the film (everything minus the dogfight) and I am so happy to see something that we worked hard on turn into what it has turned out to be. The final product is what makes this wild ride all worth it. I just can’t wait to jump back on the bandwagon and make a longer film.

Working with Glenn has been what it has always been, a hell of a fun ride. I am glad that he chose to include me in this film and has introduced me into some great characters like Captain Midnight and Chuck Ramsey.

I just can’t wait to get this project out to you guys and hear all of your feedback, weather it’s good or bad, there is always room for improvement. I am glad to hear that we have support behind us and thank all of you for visiting this website and showing interest.
Midnight and Chuck are characters that can make some great stories on both film and paper so Glenn and I are hoping that we have done our side of the job well and have stayed true to the characters. Our next post should be having an approx. date of the films completion, so keep your eyes open.

 With pride and honor,

Captain Midnight And The Secret Squadron
Production Diary #5
June

After a short absence from the site I have deemed it time to return with a major update for all the loyal Secret Squadron members. The film has been happily moving along at a steady pace in post-production. All of the graphic design work has been done (including the great squadron badge design pictured above) and the DVD menus are finalized and complete.

(Be Sure to get your Membership Card Here)

The dreaded dogfight animation has finally begun its journey to completion. The fantastic people down at Toxic Lipstick Productions (Big thanks to David) have taken up the job. I’m sure will be nothing short of fantastic.

I have also started up a Myspace account for the film; I feel it could really help by getting the word out in a big way. Get it here  .

And the big news of the day is the release date estimation. As it stands now the DVD’s will begin shipping in the beginning of August, So hold on just a little longer Squadron members!

Also, a big thanks to everyone out there who has kept this project alive for both us and for every other Captain Midnight fan out there. As always, don’t forget to visit the Fedora Chronicles for more news on Captain Midnight and other great articles and info on the golden era.

Leading the fight,

Captain Midnight And The Secret Squadron
Production Diary - February 2007
Man it’s been a while. I know a lot of people out there are getting anxious for the release of the film. But fear not squadron members! I have good news. First off, the dogfight animation is ready to rock and roll and the DVD’s will be ready shortly after that. Those who requested a DVD will be receiving a two discs will the movie and bonus features detailing our adventures while making the project. I can’t wait to get them out the door and into you guy’s hands.

Other than that, the photo here is indeed a new one with myself and Jorge. This was part of a photo-shoot we did recently. It also brings up the subject of a sequel….Yes that’s right, there will be a PREQUAL. Explaining how Chuck and Midnight got themselves into the mess they are in Chapter 5 (on DVD soon). Updates soon to follow, so stay tuned.

Big thanks as always to Renderking Fisk and The Fedora Chronicles, also most importantly big thanks to everyone who’s kept the project alive. Remember to check back soon for a new trailer and release dates for the DVD.

P.S. Be sure to watch for my upcoming Fedora Chronicles, article on my Captain Midnight promotional adventure.
