May The Fourth Be Wth You
The Kent State shootings occurred at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, in the United States and involved the shooting of unarmed college students by the Ohio National Guard on Monday, May 4, 1970.
Kent State & George Lucas connection.
"Lucas’s first film, the dystopian THX-1138, released in 1971, was a critique of a soulless future society where brutal police, videogames, and tranquilizing drugs subdue the population. Its basic message, according to the director, is that, “Modern society is a rotten thing.” It was a box-office disappointment.
The Vietnam War intensified with President Richard Nixon’s incursion into and bombing of Cambodia. Protests against the war gripped the nation, and turned tragic at Kent State, Ohio, when the National Guard fired into an unarmed crowd of students, killing four and wounding nine. This led to the famous Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young song “Ohio,” with its with its warning that “Nixon’s coming.”
As Lucas began work on his space epic during these years, he envisioned an evil Emperor who was pulling strings, and sowing destruction and tragedy. He has said that President Nixon was one of the models for Emperor Palpatine in the Star Wars saga."
Stem Cells Reanimate dead!
In a controversial move, a US biotechnology company has been given permission to recruit 20 clinically dead patients and try to bring their central nervous system back to life.
If they can successfully reanimate parts of the upper spinal cord, where the lower brain stem is located, there’s a possibility that they could kickstart vital body functions such as breathing and heartbeats - something these patients can only do with the help of machines.
"This represents the first trial of its kind and another step towards the eventual reversal of death in our lifetime," CEO of Bioquark Inc., Ira Pastor, told Sarah Knapton at The Telegraph.
