Valentine,a young model living in Geneva runs over the dog of a retired judge. Visiting him she learns that he spies on his neighbours' phone calls to feed his cynicism. Their relationship leads both to reconsider the way they view the world resulting in redemption, forgiveness and compassion.

A beautiful film visually (like all the Three Colours Trilogy, it is particularly striking in its use of colour) this is marred slightly by one instance of gratuitious sex which isn't necessary to the plot. Still the story is thought provoking and works on more than one level as all great cinema does. The final scene is brilliant in the way it links the three parts of the Three Colours Trilogy and reveals so much about how fate can totally change lives.

Trivia - The Golden Age of Hollywood
