A snapshot of the life
of a brawling, boisterous factory worker stuck in a dreary industrial
city. Arthur Seaton has a contemptuous attitude to authority and
likes to party.
The epitome of the British New Wave
this film excited audiences with the anti-establishment energy of its
central performance and really set the standard for the depiction of a
believable British working class. Today it looks fairly tame but gains
points for being highly influential.
The producers
refused to delete two love scenes which look extremely tame now so
Warwickshire refused to show the film.
Here is a chance for our own new wave. Evening Standard
