Incredible gangster epic which sums up the genre with its elaborate, clever story. Leone loved ambiguity and it is never resolved whether what happens is the actual past or opium induced dreams of De Niro's character Noodles.
This was Leone's last film and it was butchered on release by Warner who rearranged it into a chronological story. Thankfully it can now be seen pretty much the way Leone intended.
