Count Orlok a vampire brings death to Bremen.
His spreading of a plague is traced to his dealings with realtor Thomas Hutter.
The count's obsession with Hutter's wife though brings about his destruction.

Director Murnau injects an incredible eerie atmosphere into this silent horror film.
Max Schreck is one of the most repulsive and memorable villains in movie history.

This film was made without the consent of the Stoker estate, Murnau changed the location of the story and the names of the characters to camouflage it but the source was still obvious enough to provoke a law suit. This led to most copies of the film being  destroyed fortunately it was distributed widely enough for some prints to escape.
