Excellent crime thriller with more
twists than a corkscrew, it is the best film about corruption in the
police force and the dangers of celebrity in the LA of the 1950s. The
ending though it appears more appropriate with subsequent viewings
remains slightly disappointing.

Studio executives were against casting two
Australians (Crowe and Pearce) in a US period piece.
Jerry Goldsmith who wrote the score and
was nominated for an Academy Award replaced Elmer Bernstein.
