Newspaper proprietor Walter Burns tries to keep hold of his star reporter Hildy Johnson who wants to quit the business for a quiet life with Bruce Baldwin and his mother.

Brilliant fast-talking comedy : Hawks' masterstroke was changing the sex of the star reporter from the original The Front Page. Great performances from Grant, Russell and Bellamy too. It hasn't been matched since for its rapid fire dialogue.

Trivia - The Golden Age of Hollywood

A fun in joke is when Bruce Baldwin is described as being like that movie actor Ralph Bellamy. Rosalind Russell was irritated at not being the first choice for the part of Hildy and arrived for the first day of shooting with her hair dripping wet after swimming.
