Bill, Abby and Linda find employment in a
farm in Texas. When the harvest is over a rich and handsome farmer
invites them to stay with him because he has fallen in love with Abby.
The farmer only has a year to live so Bill convinces Abby to accept the
farmer's wedding offer giving the impression that they aren't a couple
but brother and sister. They hope to be on easy street when the farmer
dies but his expected death doesn't come and Bill becomes increasingly
frustrated by the situation.
A movie that relies almost
exclusively on its visuals, there is no great or memorable dialogue but
as a piece of cinema it is hard to beat. The shots of the fields are
beautiful, it also has an incredible atmosphere evoked by the use of
Saint Saens on the soundtrack, an impressionistic piece of music for an
impressionistic film.
The music over the titles and at the end is from the Aquarium from
Saint Saens' Carnival of Animals.
