unappreciated gems?

I just read Baz's post about Road House. I also love that movie. And last night I saw Boiling Point, with Wesley Snipes and Dennis Hopper, and was once again blown away by how good that movie is and why it's not more popular.

While Boiling Point and Road House are what I'd almost consider perfect movies, most film critics and even fans would disagree with me, but in my book they are unappreciated jewels.

Another in that category is Southern Comfort, with Keith Carradine and Powers Boothe. To me that's a masterpiece of characterization and action and suspense.

As is the case with most Walter Hill movies such as EXTREME PREJUDICE, WILD BILL, HICKEY & BOGGS, STREETS OF FIRE...I could go on and on but I think I've made my point. Walter Hill has consistently made some really good and in some cases great movies and never seems to get the credit he deserves.

I ditto the support of Streets of Fire. An amazing movie that is visually stylish and blends so many genre elements into a very original piece.

I love the campy Barry Gordy's The Last Dragon. A wonderful homage to the classic martial arts films of the 60's and 70's.

I agree, DLF. He also wrote Last Man Standing and The Getaway. I see he has another one in post production, "Bullet to the Head." I look forward to it.

I haven't seen The Last Dragon, thanks for the heads up, Ortega.

I would like to add the film Capricorn One for consideration. Despite the fact that this film has helped lead to the "Moon landing was faked" myth I think it is still good entertainment. I also believe that it has some of the best light plane flying sequences ever filmed.
