Etta James passes at 73

US Jazz Legend Etta James Dies 73
LOS ANGELES — Legendary US blues and soul singer Etta James, best known for her 1960 hit "At Last," died Friday of complications from leukemia, her manager said. She was 73.
James, who flitted effortlessly from jazz, pop and love ballads to feisty R&B and who plunged into drug addiction before resurrecting her career to win six Grammys, died at a hospital in Riverside, California.

Truly sad news indeed. At Last may be one the top romantic songs ever written.

"Be always drunken. Nothing else matters: that is the only question. If you would not feel the horrible burden of Time weighing on your shoulders and crushing you to the earth, be drunken continually. Drunken with what? With wine, with poetry, or with virtues, as you will. But be drunk.. ask what hour it is.. 'It is the hour to be drunken! Be drunken, if you would not be martyred slaves of Time; be drunken continually! With wine, with poetry, or with virtue, as you will.' "

H - I added a link to your post so folks can find her music faster. I had to listen to that song this morning right after I read the news.

Here's a question for everyone... do you have a special memory attached to that song, "At Last?" Please share!

"At Last" is the song my fiance and I will dance to at our wedding in April.

That's great. My wife and I have a couple of songs that remind us of when we first got together. "At Last" reminds her and I of our first kiss.

I got to see Etta perform back in 1996. She opened for John Lee Hooker. Good show...
