Coincidence, Bad Taste, or Insult?

I doubt that there is a person alive over the age of fifteen who doesn't have some mental image of the twin towers of the 9-11 attack. Well, if its press releases are to be believed the Dutch architectural firm of MVDRV has no visual memory of that day.

MVDRV has designed a twin tower complex for South Korea that not only resembles the World Trade Center that once stood in Manhattan but also features what appears to be explosions joining the two structures. When questioned recently the firm stated that it had seen no resemblance to the Ground Zero site. This flies in the face of a previous admission in a Dutch publication that they also thought of the 9-11 attacks during the designing.

I'd like to sincerely apologize for how my fellow Americans are acting right now.

On one hand, they're taking advantage of their right of free speech, and they feel justified in offering their offenses to the design of your building... While on the other hand, they're obviously forgetting what the meanings of "Liberty" and "Freedom" truly mean.

Americans need to learn to distance themselves from the "bullying" attitude that the rest of the world associates them with. Americans feel a bit too comfortable in voicing their offenses. It's embarrassing.It's one of the bigger reasons that everyone hates us.

The Dutch have NO reason to allow the attacks on America as something to keep looming over THEIR lives, as they continue to live their life day-to-day, separate from America... Any more than America would have any reason to dwell on the lives the Netherlands lost when the Germans attacked them over 50 years ago. The 9/11 terror attack didn't happen to the Dutch... So why should they associate anything to it?

This "Cloud" project is being built In Korea, for crying out loud! Not in Downtown Manhattan! This will IN NO WAY affect a single American citizen, except for how they WANT to be affected by it.

A "true" American would understand how people who live on one continent and in a separate country, should IN NO WAY have ANY say on the way someone else should live their lives. A "true" American would always remember the Declaration of Independence and the meaning behind it, and should also completely understand how it can easily pertain to everyone else living on this planet.

If our local media didn't plaster this all over the place, then I assure you, not a single person would know otherwise. Americans allow news media to manipulate their lives to the point where they have given up control of their own minds. They cannot think for themselves and they cannot live their own lives. They may think they're living the life they want to live... But they're blind to the manipulation.

Or at least I think you're wrong, based on your poor grammar. It's hard to fully understand what you're trying to say. I only assume you meant to say "*weren't* in NYC on 9/11"

I wasn't working in Manhattan that day, but I was the week before the attacks took place, installing cabinets in a residential apartment uptown. Every once in a while I was sent into the city to do non-Union trimwork and cabinet installation. I also spent all of my high school years going into Manhattan at least every other week, just to hang out with friends. To this day, when I get the chance to see the Manhattan skyline from a distance, I frown and get pissed, because the skyline I grew up seeing, is forever different.

I also get pissed at MYSELF, for having taken advantage of what we had. For taking advantage of what America USED TO be like.

And I'm not talking about the Manhattan Skyline... I'm talking about Homeland Security or the TSA or oil prices or "Weapons of Mass Destruction" and all of the American soldiers who got sent over to occupy Iraq and Afghanistan and died FOR NOTHING!!!!

I get pissed at how the America I grew up knowing, as well a how the world's perception of America, will NEVER be the same again.

But there's no reason that The Netherlands need to worry about that. Nor Should Korea."

Jake Skillman @ Liam Heller - A "true American" would have also recognized that there are American military women and men living in S. Korea blocks away putting there lives on the line at the DMZ. A "true American" would understand that if a country is willing to sacrifice thousands of American soldiers for protection. The very least that host country could do is to be sensitivity to an extremely emotional and tragic event for that nation putting its treasure on the line for its safety. So in the end....Yes South Korea should worry about how the building would offend.

Just because our current government has placed our soldiers there... Doesn't automatically predetermine that their presence is acceptable to the people of that country. And yes, that sentiment goes towards those in South Korea as well.

I hate to burst your bubble, but when a developer decides to design a massive building project... The government of that developer's country of origin would NEVER have reason to come into the picture, to deem the design as "offensive" to the PANSY ASSED Americans who feel justified in showing how grievously offended they are, at every turn of their lives. Nor would that developer have any reason to have that project approved by those whining, arrogant Americans.

How can ANYONE assume to think that a foreign country should consider America's "feelings", when we force our will onto everyone on the planet? Recently we've enforced our wishes, needs and desires onto every race, nationality and religion across the globe... And you pussies have the unmitigated gall to assume The Netherlands and South Korea have to cater to our "feelings"?

America needs to justify it's actions. It takes a lifetime to develop respect and only a single mistake to tear that respect back down again.

The last 60 years of America "wars", speak volumes as to how much respect we've lost. Our current administration isn't helping, by any means.

I'm sorry. President Obama has done so much to undermine any goodwill we've had in that part of the world and tear down our military that I can't take this troop buildup as anything more than political theater designed for the 2012 election cycle. He's quietly pulled troops off the Mexican border after Mexican drug cartels have stated that they want to annex the border states.

Whereas I agree with your sentiment that Americans need to suck it up and realize that other countries don't need to cater to our sensitivities over 9/11/01 I disagree that our military might is being used in an abusive way. Iran has declared openly and repeatedly that they want to destroy Israel - a country they believe shouldn't exist and has no right to exist - and I'm ready to take them at their word for it because their deeds support those words.

I'm getting pretty sick and tired of people not realizing how integrated everything is. We cannot isolate our foreign policy from our economic policy or our domestic policies. Islamic extremists show our embracing of an immoral culture and homosexuality as evidence of our being run by the devil. That's domestic policies affecting foreign policy. When Iran builds a nuclear missile and attacks Israel - our only true ally in the region - it will be too late. Oil prices will skyrocket. The cost of everything from gas and food to clothes will also skyrocket and our economy just can't handle that. All this "green energy" stuff is a bunch of political crap because we still use fossil fuels to generate electricity and all the 'ecological' policies we have prevent us from doing anything else. We may process a lot of oil into gas but we're still importing more oil than we need to. Everything we do relates to everything else that happens. As much as we lament the "bumper sticker mentality" its easier to think of things that way. We like pigeonholes because its easier to wrap our minds around things, but that's not how the world works.
