I been had !!!! AGAIN !!

So I took Mrs SOG out to dinner tonight and after a fine meal, complete with Chocolate Mousse peanut butter pie and coffee my cell phone rang....

I answer it and a recorded message said it was my banks visa security department. It said my credit card had some possible fraudulent charges attempted. It said my name and my wife's name and then me to press 1 for me and 2 for my wife. I hesitated but then pressed the 1.

It then asked me to input on my cell the zip code where my bills are sent.. That is when I hung up as I pay on line and figured I was about to be scammed...

I looked at the number on my call log and then called that number back to see who answered. Of course they answered as my banks visa credit card security office and asked me to press 1 if I had received a phone call or 2 if I had received a letter.....again I hung up, just didn't sound right to me.....

So I had just used the card for dinner as it was approved with no problem, I pulled out my card and dialed the customer service number on the back. I asked them if they had called me, he put me on hold and then came back and said ... YES !!!

This time I got a person to talk to and found out someone had used my number in a shoe store in the state of Washington for a purchase of over $1500. My bank had declined it .

So they shut down my card right then and will be sending me a new card within 5 days....

This is the second time this has happened to me.. About two years ago I got a call about a possible fraudulent charge and they gave me a new card then....

I advised the bank that they really should use a real person to call and not some computer program as that is really suspicious sounding on my cell and then asking if it is really me...

I am just glad my bank is on top of it and calling to make sure so I don't get stuck with any bills someone else runs up..

Anyone else out there ever get their card scammed ???

OH.. but then they'd have to PAY real people to answer the phones and it would eat into their miniscule profit margins! OH THE HORROR!

I know how you feel SOG. It happened to me once and all I can say is at least your credit card company tried to get in contact with you. When the credit card company suspected that my card had been skimmed by a waiter in Los Angeles they just cancelled the card. I had no idea that my card was void until the next time I tried to use it.

When I called the company to straighten it out I had to speak to three different individuals to get in touch with someone whose English was understandable. I finally got in contact with the security and fraud department and was informed that a new card would be sent to me in a week. No they could not send it to my hotel in Los Angeles and no they cold not expedite even in case of emergencies. I told them to cancel the account. Fortunately I had my debit card and a back up credit card.

I won't mention the name of the company but it rhymes with hitty tank.

Yeah I can't say enough about PNC credit card security, they are right on the ball and never a problem for me, some inconvenience but never a problem. Could have been a lot worse.

It has happened to me twice in the last two years, and happened on Mrs B's card last year. So that's 3 times between the two of us in the last 2 years. Thankfully they had a real person call me, so I didn't have to worry about being scammed. It's a hassle to have to reset some accounts, like my ISP account, with my new card, but I'm glad the banks are on it.

One thing I wondered...one of the bogus charges was for an airline ticket from TX to NY, and they even gave me the guy's name. So...if they have the guy's name...why don't they arrest him and put him away????

Yeah, good point...

I guess crime does pay in some cases....

My neighbor got hacked too... Worse for him .. He didn't use his credit card but always used his debit card ......

if they hack your debit card they have the keys to the Kingdom.... All your money are belong to them.,they can keep charging until it is dry....

I just use my banks credit card and pay it off every month with online banking. I have the credit card behind me for not having to pay if that number is hacked and also purchase disputes if the sellers turns out to be a dingbat... Can't do any of that with debit cards...

My neighbor lost some coin for sure and now only uses his credit card....

Not quite the same, but we just had a bad experience with our bank.

We had our driveway paved after being in our house for 17 years. So, to pay it off, my wife put in an electronic transfer from savings to checking. Come to find out that because the account had no activity for over a year (other than interest), they made it "inactive", canceled the transfer and now the check is over drawn.

Needless to say, we are going shopping for a new bank.

Not to disparage the mouse house, but on three different times in the past two years, my wife’s card has been 'swiped' electronically with an RFID scanner...though the card never left my wife’s purse.

Problem solved with a RFID blocking wallet for each of us.
We have top men working on it....right now.

Three hours ago I was notified by my credit union that my debit card had been compromised. Once again it was done by a waiter at a restaurant with a "Skimmer".

Fortunately for me the waiter had been under investigation and he was picked up before he could drop my information to a buyer. I think that for the foreseeable future I will be paying cash in all restaurants.

It's happened to me in the past. I was more irritated when my bank shut down my credit card due to possible fraudulent activity. For the year and a half that I had this card, it was only used in Illinois. Suddenly it starts getting used at gas stations in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan. They shut it down. The problem was that the thief was ME! I was on a road trip for my vacation. Good thing I had a supply of cash as it took them 12 hours to undo the hold once I called in.

I have had problems like this with my bank, but I have had problems with paypal and them repeatedly being hacked. Last time someone hacked my account and bought two ipads for $1,000 a piece. Luckily I caught it in time, but it was a royal pain getting things straightened out.

I've given up on paypal now. It makes ebay virtually impossible to use, but it's worth it not to have the hassle.
