Eddie Bauer Journeyman Leather Jacket

Postby n11pilot » Sat Oct 15, 2011 10:20 am

Two days ago I received a jacket I had ordered from Eddie Bauer online. It was their Journeyman jacket in black leather. The jacket looked good online and was described as a well made item by online reviews. When I received the jacket I was greatly disappointed.
The fit was loose around the waist to the point that even the back adjustment tabs couldn't help and the sleeves were so long that the cuff came past the palm of my hand.
The leather itself was of middling quality and was of a much lighter weight than expected. In short it was a rather typical made in China sub par jacket, not worth the nearly three hundred dollar price tag. I intend to drive to an Eddie Bauer store this morning and return it.

In my opinion if you are tempted by this jacket you should save your money and shop elsewhere.

You know I would have to agree. As much as I love Eddie Bauer stuff, they did fall a bit short on the Journeyman jacket. It has some nice lines and the half belted back is a nice touch but that is all just visuals. When I first saw this one on line I thought it may be a new purchase for me but when I saw it in the store I had the same disappointment. Made in China and it shows with the quality of the leather. Too thin to be of any warmth and I couldn't justify the price tag either. I'd rather pay that for something in their First Ascent line-up that I know will keep me warm and protected in the months to come, be it out on the town or out in the field. It's a shame too as it visually is a nice looking jacket, and Eddie Bauer stuff is usually better than this, but not for three-hundred clams.
Maybe when it goes on clearance I might revisit this one.

Cheers!

3-bills seems a little steep, especially given the problems you described. My leather jacket was swiped from my brother's car while we were at a mall a month ago. Insurance covered (most of) it, so I went looking for a replacement. I was pretty disappointed in EB's stuff, though my dad remains a big fan.

Thanks to the Eddie Bauer return policy I did get my money back. I have no problem with their customer service but the quality of some of their products is inconsistent. Due to that inconsistency I will no longer buy their merchandise online. If I can't try it on first and be sure of its quality I won't buy it.

I love their First Ascent line. Saw a great down sweater while I was shopping!

I have their down sweater and it is fantastic. Keeps you warm on its own and is light enough to fit a shell over it like their 'Snowgazer' jacket. It really is like a sweater instead of a jacket.

Cheers!

I have the First Ascent vest and I love it. I love it with a sweater or hoodie in the fall for quick trips or chores. During last winter's snowstorm, I wore that under my Alpha N3B parka while I shoveled out my car and my neighbors' stuff. Kept me toasty warm in driving winds.
