The Venerable Trench Coat...

Everything to go with the lid when going to the office, a night on the town and special occasions. Looking sharp in your vintage/retro clothing has never been so easy... This is also your table to discuss and contribute to the conversations about reproducing the "Great Detective" look. Humphrey Bogart in "Casablanca" and "The Maltese Falcon" and William Powell in "The Thin Man" are just two great examples!

Hey guys check this out,,, I am always looking for that particular trench coat and this looks like the best I have seen but it is NOT my size,,,,,

Looks like a good company to deal with as they will give a refund but it is in England but the coat is what I am looking for and would not hesitate to buy if it would fit....

Look at this quickly as it is less than a day to go

http://cgi.ebay.com/BURBERRY-Vtg-60s-Be ... 45f6509717

look around that site they have good looking medium one there also...

Very well guided for the Trench Coat.Trench Coats have all-weather versatility while suiting all body shapes and sizes. Bespoke trench coats are the epitome of classy style and bring a sophisticated look to the individual.

While I do like the concept of the Trench, I went with a 3/4 length car coat instead. I'm looking forward to wearing it now that winter has hit here in the North central plains. North Dakota gives plenty of wear for wool and felt clothing, I'm not entirely sure that I like that though.

Ok, so how about this.. What are the features of the trench coat? and what makes it iconic, event if you don't particularly like it?
I have a black trench coat and LOVE it for rain.. and with the liner and a jacket underneath I can wear it in all but the COLDEST weather, but your mileage may differ (I live in Brooklyn and compared to Buffalo NY where I grew up .. it doesn't REALLY get cold in NYC :-))

..I think it was called a trench coat because its first elements were designed for ..the trenches .. WW1. to keep water off the soldier. I've also found that the traditional sort of collar with the buckles and such is really what is special about keeping water out.

Some of the features of the trench coat are its length, the large stand-up when necessary collar, the belt to keep the torso warm (all for warmth), foldable-over double-breastedness to keep cold and wind out, shoulder flaps as an extra barrier to keep the inside dry, and the tight weave of the material. TCs are not waterproof, but they do shed moisture better than traditional cotton or wool coats of the time.

I've been looking at that one myself, but I'm not sure I can justify the cost. On one hand, men's fashions tend to be good for years, and the way I wear my clothes, I'll get a lot of mileage out of it. However, half a grand for just a coat? Maybe I'll start saving, and make a decision this spring when I can actually wear it.

Yes, an interesting one to be sure, and obscenely expensive is right.

Cheers!

I would really like to get one as close as possible to the one Bogart wore in Casablanca...

Quite a few years ago I bought a Burberry while staioned in Germany and I think that it really looked like the one Bogey wore in the film. The problem is that I don't think they are made that way right now. At least I can't find it on any of the sites that sell Burberry products.

My daughter snapped this candid shot of me while we were walking in Manhattan. The trench is a Christian Dior Monsieur, Cotton/Poly blend with wool lining. I won it on ebay last spring for $50.

I just love wearing a classic trench coat, it's just perfectly designed and functional...keeps me warmer and more comfortable that my most expensive and hi-tech ski jackets.

Very good look for Manhattan exploring. By the way look at the guy behind you. I know what he is thinking,"Look at that guy in the fedora. I better distract my girl before she throws herself at him. Damn! I wish I had a fedora." :)
