I always think of the film "After The Thin Man" on New Years Eve.

For me, having a guardian angel that is a sharp dressed one like ol' Cary cant be all too bad. So maybe, The Bishop's Wife.

I'll third that motion. Great minds indeed! :D

Good choice there too CCJ, and a big hardy welcome to the Speakeasy!

Cheers!

Easy! No contest. "The Thin Man". The right season, the right story. The right charactors, and lots of the right hats.

I think that's exactly what my wife and I are going to watch. I don't know if everyone is going to be awake enough to keep on watching the entire series past mid-night though.

Hey! Welcome to the Speakeasy John! Yeah, I was just thinking of that one. It's a shame it isn't on DVD yet. I suppose, since it was thought of as a stinker of a film back then they don't want to release it now. I thought it was pretty good, and I loved listening to it on Radio Classics on XM Radio last year. It was a running gag on the Jack Benny radio & tv show about how poorly the film did at the box office. I suppose it might be buried in a Best of Jack Benny DVD somewhere.

Here is some info on the film Eric.

Again, welcome John! Good to see you here. :)
Happy New Year!

Cheers!

There is one more film that I think of as number two to "After the Thin Man", and that would be "Bell, Book, and Candle".

All I have to say is that if you look up the word "Smouldering" and there isn't a still photo of Kim Novak from this film next to the definition, you need a new dictionary.

I haven't heard of that one, Pilot. I'll put it on my watch list.

Two more that have NY Eve scenes are Barbary Coast (EG Robinson) and The Philadelphia Story.

But I think "After the Thin Man" will always be my favorite for this particular day.

Oh Blackthorn, Bell, Book and Candle should be the next see in your list of films. A Romantic comedy to be sure. James Stewars does a wonderful job in it and Kim Novak... Let's just say that if you're not in lust with her after this film there is no hope. She'll make you purr like her cat Pyewacket. Jack Lemon and Ernie Kovaks have pretty good supporting roles in this film as well. I do believe you will enjoy this one.
