The sick thing about me is that if I were younger, I would actually not find this loss of technology to be so bad.
I have early childhood memories of having outhouses, no indoor plumbing, farming to raise our own food, and even spending nights with my maternal grandparents who used kerosene lamps for lighting once darkness fell.
I think we as a culture have become "too soft" "too lazy" and have no clue as to what the modern world has brought us. I can remember when things were completely different. And people just seemed kinder, happier, etc back then. What we lost with modern tech, was vast, IMO. The American socieity of my youth, is long gone, technology has at least played some role in that. But with that said, I can only imagine the deaths that would occure if we lost everything, and that in itself makes me not to wish for it. Can you imagine the gangs and thugs who would be upon us all? Preying upon the weak, the ones who did not own guns and ammo. It would be complete chaos, and only the strong would survive. Which to my mind would get rid of most of the far left wingnuts, who don't have enough common sense for survival. Can't hug a tree and then cut it down for firewood. Since most of the left wingnuts don't own guns, they would be toast. But even that thought isn't particularly a ffond one. But ask yourself a question. What sort of political guy would stand a better change of survival? An average working guy, or some intellectual elite? We may find our Nation wiped clean by the wrath of God. And the thing is, not only is it possible, it is a given.
