First "Lego Man" In Space

Postby Hakaider » Fri Jan 27, 2012 7:26 pm

Two high school seniors from Toronto, Canada have recently sent a 2 inch Lego figure into near space. 17 year old Mathew Ho was inspired to to build his own weather balloon, after he saw a video of a weather balloon being sent to space by students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He asked his friend & classmate, Asad Muhammad to help build the contraption, and they scoured Craiglists, and the internet for the parts for their contraption. It would end up costing them $400, and four months of free Saturdays. Equipped with a GPS system, their craft had climbed up to 80,000 feet within one hour & five minutes, before the balloon had exploded. (It took 32 minutes for the "Lego man" to descend into Earth.) The balloon was equipped with 4 Canon cameras, (Which were programmed to take pictures every 20 seconds without stopping) and the footage was downloaded into YouTube. (Their "Lego Man" space video has gone viral within a matter of days.)
