Bow Ties

Everything to go with the lid when going to the office, a night on the town and special occasions. Looking sharp in your vintage/retro clothing has never been so easy... This is also your table to discuss and contribute to the conversations about reproducing the "Great Detective" look. Humphrey Bogart in "Casablanca" and "The Maltese Falcon" and William Powell in "The Thin Man" are just two great examples!

Bow Ties

Postby DanielJones » Tue Jul 19, 2011 12:53 pm

So does anybody here own any bow ties? Want to show them off?
I just bought my first one last week from Nordstrom Rack. A little plaid number. I plan on getting a few more for sure.
This video was a real help in tying the bow tie as most pictorial instructions are fairly vague. Hope this will be of help to you too.

Vague huh?

If you have any that you wish to show off, here is the spot to do it. I hope to see plenty of wonderful examples and maybe some good links to sites that sell some real unique corkers.
After all, if The Doctor thinks a bow tie is cool, then it must be. :)

Even Bill Nighy makes it look cool.

Can't wait to see your collections and can't wait to start collecting. Dang! Another addiction.

Cheers!

I own three, two of them formal for my tux. One is black silk while the other is black grosgrain. The only (for now) casual bow tie I have is red with blue white and silver pattern. I'll see if I can get some pics up. All are self tie.

Very cool! Can't wait to see them.

Maybe we could also post some of our favorite images of folks from the Golden Age of film or even period pieces that have folks in their bow ties.
Like this one from Seabiscuit (2003). I like the one that Ed Lauter is wearing. I mean the whole scene is great, but that tie...

Here is an old Tutorial from back in the day. Another way to do it.

One from Boardwalk Empire. The person, Chalky White.

And if you're not fond of the bow tie, maybe this dude can convince you otherwise.

Thanks, fellas. Yes, that tweed coat and tie have found a rather popular place in my lineup. Unseen in the last photo is the pair of two tone (brown and an off-white "champagne" color) spectators I picked up at a very nice little shoe place in Chicago.

Another pic of the same outfit (albeit different shirt) at my Aunt and Uncle's house shooting some pool. To the right is my younger cousin Anthony.

I picked these two up at JC Penney's today. They were having a buy one get one half off sale and I had a coupon for an additional 15% off. They are by Izod of all things. It was the only brand of new bow ties thus far lat even looked decent to me.

I own two. One in pink paisley and one in navy. I don't wear them often enough. IP may have inspired me to break them out.

Nice ties, Dan. If I'm not mistaken, the top blue one was a favorite pattern of Winston Churchill so you're in good company.
