Do I get rid of 'em?

Everything to go with the lid when going to the office, a night on the town and special occasions. Looking sharp in your vintage/retro clothing has never been so easy... This is also your table to discuss and contribute to the conversations about reproducing the "Great Detective" look. Humphrey Bogart in "Casablanca" and "The Maltese Falcon" and William Powell in "The Thin Man" are just two great examples!

Also known as "Detective Gear"

Do I toss out my older "fat" clothes or keep them just in case?

Do I get rid of 'em?

Postby ortega76 » Thu Jan 06, 2011 2:09 pm

18 months ago, I was nearly 70 pounds heavier. Through a combination of diet, exercise and stress elimination, I lost that weight and have kept it off for about a year. So I now have a closet full of suits that are a 46 when I now wear a 40. I have dozens of shirts that are a 17 1/2 collar when I now wear a 16.

As I currently am a stay-at-home dad, my need for suits has largely gone away and I have two in the closet and a handful of shirts. I have been able to salvage a few pairs of pants but the rest can't really be re-cut. So, do I hold on to them in case I gain the weight back or toss them?

a bridge unburned is a bridge you can cross again. Why tempt that fate?

Ortega76, First let me congratulate you on your dedication. I know it could not have been easy to drop 70 pounds but you have become a new you. That is probably my point, those clothes do not belong to you, they belong to the heavier man you used to be. That guy is in your past, be polite and toss him his clothes and don't look back.

Toss them. Look ahead not back. Trust in yourself that you have made a life style change and you are making the decision to go forward not back to that other guy. Congrats and a job well done.

Thanks guys. It is true that losing 70 pounds has helped me feel better and look better. It was worth the effort, especially now that I am a parent and can say that staying healthy for my family is of great importance. So, I am taking your advice and getting rid of the old stuff. I've already donated most of the shirts to a program that gets homeless people ready for interviews.I'm going to see if anyone I know can use the suits before I put them up for donation or auction.
