The Venerable Trench Coat...

Everything to go with the lid when going to the office, a night on the town and special occasions. Looking sharp in your vintage/retro clothing has never been so easy... This is also your table to discuss and contribute to the conversations about reproducing the "Great Detective" look. Humphrey Bogart in "Casablanca" and "The Maltese Falcon" and William Powell in "The Thin Man" are just two great examples!

Also known as "Detective Gear"

That is a good looking coat. I've never heard of the brand but I think the name translates from Latin as "Water shield".

The things I learn from you, Pilot....wow.

Nice looking trench coat!

 Thank you my friend but don't be too impressed. If you go to Catholic School you pick up a little Latin.

My Latin is VERY limited. I do remember this:

parvus equus... Comes in very handy if you find someone who wants to talk about a small horse....

Then there is the saying that Raoul taught me...

Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam

Roughly translated..

I have a catapult. Unless you give all of your money to me, I will fling an enormous rock at your head.

Thus ends my complete vocabulary in Latin.. 8)

This is very rough Latin. It seems my ability with the language decreases in the absence of a metal edged ruler but I'm sure Raoul would understand.

If you are willing to drop the coin, I think this one fits the bill. Can't tell about the cape, but the front looks good. The Walton Raincoat by Aquascutum of London

It is too steep for me, but seems that I always want a steak when I can only afford a hamburger :D

I watched Tokyo Joe last night and was surprised to see that Bogart wore a trench coat in the beginning of the movie, and it doesn't have the cape. I did see one D ring in one of the shots, but no cape.

There are a couple of problems with Aqascutum that bo beyond price. The company is running in the red and if an order is placed there may be a delivery problem or delay. A Chinese firm is trying to gain control of the ailing company. The last is the deal breaker for me. I refuse to send more money to China.

Good catch on "Tokyo Joe", Blackthorn. I have a theory now about Trench coats. I think that after WWI they became like the M-65 Field jackets did after 1969. The M-65 as issued was rugged, had a lot of good pockets, and did have a certain sense of style and a hint of adventure, seasoned with "Been there, done that". Soon the M-65 worked its way into popular fashion and just as soon companies started to make non GI M-65s in colors and modifications Uncle Sam never thought of.
I think the Trench coat underwent the same evolution in the years after the Great War which is why there is such a variety in what we see on the screen.
