How about a table where people can talk about the technology we use to keep in touch with other retrocentrics and vintage aficionados? From Blackberry's to WiFi, to the latest desk or laptops to breathing new life to old CPU's using Fedora Open Source...

Website Help

Hey Speak-easy-ers.

I know some of you are in the Tech field, and our dear host Mr. Fisk is a web genius, so I'm hoping someone can help me out.

I have a spreadsheet containing information on about 100 people--names, addresses, etc. It's a members directory listing.

Now, what I want to do is to embed a "Search the Directory" function into a webpage that I am building for said organization. Quite frankly I'm in over my head with this feature. It has to be easy for the admin to add and delete records from, too, and while I have been playing around a bit with MySQL--if I'm getting lost, any of one who comes after me will be equally confused.

Any ideas?

Regards
Craig

Eek! I know a lot about 'puters but I am not a DBA, I don't play one on the internet and databases are my kryptonite.

The only thing I can think of is to do a flat file DB. The real difficulty is the search function. Making it able to be administrated online adds complication as well. Hmmm ... that's a head-scratcher.

As an aside - even if you're over your head, you can add notes into the code but comment them out so they don't appear on the page in a browser. That'll tell whomever follows you what you were trying to do. How you comment it out depends on the code; sometimes its a pound sign (#) sometimes its a bang (!) and sometimes its the tag REM. There are others but those are the ones I know of.
