Obviously Doug's Grandmother didn't play the violin. :D

My Grandmother watched this film every time it came on not because she really like it but she did enjoy the violin references.

Congratulations, n11pilot,

The correct answer is violin. Humoresque is often sited for its "movie magic", since John Garfield didn't actually play the violin. Someone stood behind him, reaching their arms around to play. Had to have been awkward for everyone involved, but it works!
