I believe the actress is Bette Davis. I saw this a few years ago and was impressed with the creep factor MS Davis could bring to the screen. I do have to admit that I prefer her the way she was in The Bride Came COD. :)

Congratulations, n11pilot,

The correct answer is Bette Davis. Being used to the older, more made-up Bette, I wasn't a big fan of her appearance until I saw The Letter. Afterward, I thought she was attractive in movies like the one you mentioned. How I wish, through the years, she and Joan Crawford had eased up on the eyeliner, brow pencil, and red lipstick!
