Holidays.. and such

Postby davidg » Tue Mar 13, 2012 5:03 pm

Back where I grew up they're trying to get back to celebrating an old Polish festival...
Dyngus day!

This was quite popular among Polish Immigrants and therefore in areas where they settled.. Buffalo NY being one of those areas.. I remember being told, as a kid that these ..used to be.. big holidays .. but they died out pretty much during the 1970's.. I'm glad to see that they're coming back..

Could it be that other people are looking back to "glories" of a past that ..occasionally.. never really was.. except in our imaginations?

Died out during the 70's ????

Could that be because of the Frank Sinatra movie "Dirty Dingus Magee " which opened in 1970??

There should be holidays each month besides December that celebrates one ethnic group. We have St. Patrick's Day for March. We should have one for the Polish, Norwegian, English, French... Have it during the school year so we can learn more about the nations we share this planet with us...

Eric, That's not a terrible idea but I think to make it work they would have to do two ethnic groups per week. :)
