He was a great chap and put out fine calendars depicting WWII era art, B movie serials and cowboys. I only wish I got to know him better.

Were Larry Welch and Kan Smiley the same person?

Yes, Kan Smiley was Larry's nom de guerre here on the FC.

I met Larry here on the FC where he contributed many interesting posts and quite a few laughs. Larry enjoyed classic films and had the same chaste, red blooded American crush on Myrna Loy that many of us share. Larry had a way of writing that could cut right to the bone of the matter and slice away a lot of the stuff that could obscure the facts. Larry was a history buff and enjoyed sharing facts and photos that he had found on the subject with his friends.

I know from his emails that Larry loved his wife, his country, and that he enjoyed life and his friends. He had a great sense of humor and could be described best as a classic mid-western gentleman.

Larry Welch was a good man and a good friend. He will be missed.

Thanks pilot, I couldn't have put it better myself.

Rest in peace, Larry. You've earned it.

Thank you for the insight, my friend. Do we know how he died?
