The Fedora Chronicles - Fight Cancer

From The Co-Founder of The Fedora Chronicles: Carol Fisk...
I am writing to you to ask for your support. This year I am participating in the Breast Cancer 3-Day, a 60-mile walk to raise funds to find a cure for breast cancer.

Women of all ages can develop breast cancer, from teenagers to women in their 80’s and 90’s. U.S statistics from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (statistics supported from the National Cancer Institute, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and American Cancer Society) estimate 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. There is a new case of breast cancer diagnosed every three minutes. Breast cancer will kill approximately 40,000 women this year. That is one person every 13 minutes. Breast cancer is not just a women’s disease. Although rare, men are also at risk. More than 1500 men will be diagnosed and 400 men will die from the disease this year. There is no cure for breast cancer. Early detection and treatment is still the best defense.

Eighty-five percent of the money raised will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation whose mission it is to eradicate breast cancer as a life threatening disease. Funds will go to support medical research into the possible causes of and cure for breast cancer, to education and early detection programs, and clinical care and support services for women with breast cancer in communities across the country. Fifteen percent of the proceeds raised will go to the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund, an endowment fund that will ensure that breast cancer causes will continue to be supported irrespective of gifting in years to come. This fund will support breast cancer initiatives including research, treatment, prevention and education.

The walk this year is from August 4 through August 6. My goal is to raise over $2,200 for the cause. Please help me to realize this ambitious goal. If you could donate $50, 25, 10 or any amount it would go a long way

I thank you in advance for your support while I work hard to raise funds for such an important cause. Walking 60 miles is nothing compared to what women and men diagnosed with breast cancer endure.
