Introduction
I began my adult life a liberal in college, belonging to MassPIRG and
reading The Nation. Then with the seat-belt law controversy in
Massachusetts, I became a libertarian. I eventually converted my father
to libertarianism from being a lifelong Republican supporter. He died
over a year ago while still actively supporting local libertarian
candidates. Although I am still registered Libertarian, I see myself
voting for the Republican candidate in elections every time for the
forseeable future. They are the only thing which stands between us and
the socialist scourge.
The Importance of This
Year’s Election
And today's Democrat has a poor record when it comes to defending our
country. I am tired of seeing my state going Democrat year after year,
and the conservatives in our region being ostracized from political
influence.
Republicans, although they are spending domestically like liberals, are
crucial to the US winning the War on Terror. Terrorists will not
respond in our favor if we appease them. And the United Nations, the
sacred cow of the Left, is a bankrupt, impotent body of corruption that
needs to be opposed. Plus, the Democrats of today, unlike the JFK-type
old guard, have too high a Smarm Factor for my tastes. It is smarmy for
Kerry to run for president after betraying his country and fellow
soldiers upon his return from Vietnam. And the Democrats willing to
risk anarchy litigating election results they don't agree with is
reason alone to vote against them.
Roll Models
Jerry Williams and Gene Burns of WRKO, righted my political thinking
initially. Got me thinking about what freedom means, beyond political
expediencies and the daily headlines. My job entails lots of time in
the
company car, and my radio is tuned to Glenn Beck 9-12, then Rush, then
Jay Severin on 96.9 FM talk. The closest thing to a "role model" I have
in person, is my son, now 7yrs old, who showed me courage early in his
premature life while he struggled with a congenital problem. It
requires lots of hospitalization, needles, tests and medication.
So, in the spirit of Samuel and John Adams, the gentlemen from Quincy,
MA., I founded this New England Conservatives Yahoo! Group. Call it a
new Declaration of Independence. This time from the tyranny of
liberalism in New England.
